For Sentimental Reasons
Is it just me? Do people decorate for Valentine’s Day? Well, I do. Not in the my-house-looks-like-a-retail-store kind of way, but more with a heart here and a dash of red there—and as the day draws closer with a little sprinkling of chocolate. Love—romantic and other kinds, too—seems worthy of celebration, especially in the bleak mid-winter.
Some will craft clever cards with paper and stamps, while others will make elaborate cookies and candies. Still others will don something sparkly and sip something bubbly. Most likely, I’ll dabble in all of the aforementioned, but mostly I’ll decorate.
A little red heart on the chest in the living room adds a touch of love.
Rosebuds and ribbon serve the same purpose in the family room.
And a little needlepoint hanger on the clock reminds one that it’s never too late to love.

Handmade hearts from my littlest Valentines brighten up the kitchen, where nothin’ says lovin’ like well, you know.
And 16-year-old wax paper and crayon hearts spread the love to the sitting area nearby.
When we honeymooned at The Balsams, we found a stone fireplace in a lakeside cabin. Engraved in the granite mantel were the words, I CANNOT WARM YOU IF YOUR HEART BE COLD, which the Mister continues to quote to this day. So, to remember The Balsams and our wonderful time there, a red construction paper chain and a berry wreath.
Finally, keeping all three children’s preschool and grade school artwork wasn’t realistic, but tossing out handmade Valentines was impossible. I love them.
For sentimental reasons.

So sweet! I loved seeing all of the ways you spread the love around your house. I absolutely save all of my kiddos most precious projects and they love seeing them come back out every year. I think that quote is wonderful and I have a feeling it may become a regular saying at our house too! :-)

Sweet touches of red {and love} sprinkled around your home. I miss all artwork that would pepper our windows and frig this time of year.

How lovely, and thoughtful. I'm afraid I'm not much for Valentine's Day, but you give me pause, perhaps I shouldn't be such a curmudgeon about it. Thank you. Reggie
ReplyDeleteVery sweet, especially the touches from your "littlest valentine", hummm....have nothing going on over here, so maybe today I should change that even if its a little something. Thanks for the pretty visuals and nice post.
ReplyDeletePlease visit me, doing my first ever giveaway, a gorgeous french chair...www.theenchantedhome.blogspot.com
Love the handmade valentines. I add a little red throughout the house. But while my daughter sleeps on the 13th I completely decorate her room with balloons, hearts, and confetti so she wakes up to a surprise on the 14th.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I cant part with the hliday pictures my son makes either :O) I usually decorate a little bit...table cloth, mugs, a few ornaments, but this year my Vday box is buried in the storage room while we renovate the basement.
ReplyDeleteSweet touches and just enough. You have a beautiful home!! Martina
ReplyDeleteHo hum... I have absolutely nothing! Your home looks so loving though!
ReplyDeleteThose sentimental touches make a house
ReplyDeletea home, and your home is delightful in
many ways. Great post!
I don't do much for Valentine's Day but I have kept some of the ones the kids have made over the years. My mother always hand made her cards to us and my father - they were amazing - I'll never be able to equal her creativity and thoughtfulness - she was the best!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! You have everything decorated so nicely.Really gets you in the mood for Valentines Day.
ReplyDeleteLOVE-LOVE all your decorations! You've inspired me... more Valentine decorations!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I love the Valentine's you kept. I'm sure I did too but they are tucked away in their respective son1 ans son2 boxes. I find I don't decorate as much with only me and the hubby here. Makes me kind of sad. I even forgot to put my Valentine banner up and door decorations. I love looking at yours though. :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love it! I left my tree up from Christmas this year and changed it mid January to a Valentine's Tree. The lights still make me happy in Feb. :.)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE all of your Valentine's decor. So cute!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I love all of your little Valentines' touches - too cute for words.
ReplyDeleteI have one little dish of sparkly red hearts and that's it!
But you've got me thinking that its time to add a few more things - yeah a project.
:-)
Love your Valentine's decorations! I displayed the kids's decorations they've made in school. They're strewn about the kitchen and it makes me smile. :)
