Countertop Review

This time last year I was packing up our house to prepare for our down-to-the-studs renovation in our kitchen, family room, and master bath as well as the addition of a screened porch. The family room wasn't originally part of the plan, but that's a post for another time. The kitchen was where I really had to plan and scheme, and, yes even fret, to stay in our footprint and budget and to get the function and look I wanted. I love a challenge like this, though, so despite some occasional frustration with my client (aka me! ), I enjoyed the process. A key "want" of mine was honed marble countertops. There are dozens--maybe hundreds--of blog posts, articles, and showroom sites that compare various types of countertop materials and their pros and cons. I read most of them and took notes from a lot of them in the months leading up to our start date. One of the most helpful things was visiting a sweet friend's kitchen, where I was able to ask questions about cleaning, a

Orange Blossom Special

IMG_3509A trip to Florida wouldn’t be compete without a trip to a Lake County citrus grove.IMG_3503  The Mister and I are blessed to have a friend who manages an organic grove on the outskirts of Mount Dora.IMG_3511Even after a long day of antiquing, we were not too tired to pick a few tangelos.  “Fresh from the grove taste” is more than an advertising slogan.  IMG_3538These beauties have seen no dye, no fertilizer, no pest control, and they are delicious! True love is sectioning about fifteen pounds of grapefruit for the Mister and me.  We have it in the morning, and often for dessert, too.  I love it on mixed greens with slices of avocado for lunch.

Do you love citrus, too?

  1. Yes. I love citrus and an avocado and grapefruit salad is just about the best.

  2. How wonderful to be able to have it so fresh!!

  3. Yum! I love tangelos..and I love the idea of citrus with avoacados.....the textures are wonderful together. ENJOY!

  4. We are citrus lovers, too. Sectioning grapefruit makes it so much easier to just grab a little dish and enjoy. DOTR has been gobbling it down on this diet and it seems as though I'm refilling the big bowl everyday!

  5. Those oranges and grapefruits look amazing!

  6. So jealous. I got some good ones before I left FL last May on a quick getaway to see my best girlfriend. mmmmm.

  7. there is nothing better than a fresh orange and a slice
    of avocado! decadent.

my in laws winter in florida and send us many boxes
of sweet oranges. i took one up to my dad in the
hospital who asked where it was from (meaning which
    grocery store.) florida! :)

hope you're still enjoying some of that florida sunshine.

  8. I love oranges and grapefruits. I actually frequently have an orange for dessert in the evening - delicious and staves off the ice cream cravings!

  9. How fresh and wonderful! I hate I couldn't see you while you were in Tampa!

  10. My in-laws used to have a citrus and avocado grove on their property. We have bags of fruit so much so that sometimes it would rot before we could get to it. How I miss it now! :) xoxo
